Let's talk about where you want to go. No pitch, no homework.
I'm Deven Kanungo, a financial advisor with Northwestern Mutual in Fort Worth. I grew up in Arlington, and I help families here build a plan they actually understand. It starts with a short video call where I mostly listen.
A 30-minute video call from wherever you are. Free, and no obligation.
Backed by Northwestern Mutual, helping families since 1857.
What the first call is for
A lot of people put off talking to a financial advisor because they expect a sales meeting. This call is closer to a conversation with a friend who happens to know this stuff.
We'll talk about whatever's on your mind. Maybe it's a new baby, a job change or a first house. Maybe it's a business, or just a nagging feeling that you should be doing more with your money. I'll ask questions, you'll ask questions, and I'll tell you honestly whether I think I can help.
You don't need to prepare anything or have a certain amount saved. And nobody's buying anything on this call.
About Deven
I went to Georgia Tech to study aerospace engineering. Somewhere along the way I figured out that I liked working with people more than I liked working with equations, so I finished with a degree in economics and came home to Fort Worth.
Home is a loose word for me. I was born in Stamford, Connecticut, but we moved to Arlington when I was two, so North Texas is the only place I really remember growing up. I spent most of my childhood on soccer fields, baseball diamonds and basketball courts.
I've always been the friend people call about a budget. Financial planning let me turn that into a job: sitting down with people, figuring out what matters to them, and coaching them toward it.
These days my wife teaches Pre-K in Keller ISD, and we have a three-year-old son and a one-year-old daughter. So when you tell me you're worried about paying for college, protecting your family's income or ever getting to retire, I'm working through the same questions at my own kitchen table. When I'm not with clients or my kids, I'm working out, catching live music or losing golf balls.
What you can expect from me
- A plan you can actually follow, written in plain English.
- Regular check-ins, and changes to the plan when your life changes.
- My honest recommendation, including when it's "wait."
- The kind of service that makes you want to send your friends to me. That's how I'm building my practice.
How I help
Every plan starts with your goals. These are the areas we'll usually cover.
A financial plan built around your life
We start with your goals, find the blind spots, and build from there. Then we revisit it as life happens.
Protecting your family
Life insurance sized to what your family would actually need, whether that's term coverage for the years with young kids or permanent coverage that lasts.
Protecting your paycheck
Your ability to earn is probably your biggest asset. Disability income insurance covers it, including specialized coverage for physicians, dentists and business owners.
Retirement
How much to save, where to put it, and how to turn it into income that lasts once the paychecks stop.
Paying for college
Savings strategies and a clear look at your options, so your kids' education doesn't come at the cost of your own retirement.
Planning for later in life
Long-term care planning gives you more say in where and how you get care if you ever need it.
Also part of the conversation, when it fits: investing and wealth building, tax-efficient strategies, and leaving a legacy or giving to causes you care about.
Who I work with
Many of the people I work with are in their late 20s to 40s. Careers are going well, kids are arriving or already running around, and there's a sense that it's time to get organized. Some are just getting started. Others have 401(k)s scattered across three old employers and want someone to help them make sense of it all.
I also work with physicians, dentists and business owners, whose income and protection needs don't fit the standard mold.
If any of that sounds like you, let's talk.
